ter and the Kornati on the other would form a network of
smaller centres through which it would be worthwhile to
create the idea of a comprehensive and picturesque pre-
sentation of the cultural-historical and geographic con-
text to which the
Gagliana grossa
belonged.
At one time, the experience of underwater research
prompted Ksenija Radulić to underscore the importance
of well-planned research work, stressing the importance
of conserving finds and emphasizing in particular the si-
gnificance of their presentation in order to communicate
with the public and future generations. All of these are
subjects of concern in the “The Shipwreck of Gnalić –
Mirror of Renaissance Europe” project, which continues
the work begun so long before and nurtures the memory
of the first researchers.
By reflecting the formal reality of the visibleworld, amirror
facilitates introspection. It is a symbol of awareness, wis-
dom and creative imagination, and in folk belief it absorbs
the received image which, with its help, returns from the
deep past or from great distances. This is precisely what
is expected of the shipwreck at Gnalić, which has already
demonstrated its power to reflect the European past on nu-
merous occasions, and has oncemore attracted attention at
the moment when Croatia is joining a united Europe.

Iskustvo podvodnog istraživanja navelo je svojevremeno
Kseniju Radulić da istakne značenje dobrog planiranja
istraživačkoga rada, upozori na važnost konzerviranja na-
laza i posebno naglasi značenje njihove prezentacije radi
komunikacije s javnošću i s budućimgeneracijama. O sve-
mu se tome povela briga u projektu
Brodolom kod Gnalića
– ogledalo renesansne Europe
, koji nastavlja davno započet
posao i čuva uspomenu na prve istraživače
Odražavajući formalnu realnost vidljivog svijeta, ogle-
dalo odrazom dokazuje stvarno postojanje osoba i pred-
meta. Ono je simbol svijesti, mudrosti i stvaralačke ma-
šte, a u narodnom vjerovanju upija primljene slike koje
se uz njegovu pomoć vraćaju iz duboke prošlosti ili iz
velike daljine. Upravo se to očekuje od brodoloma kod
Gnalića, koji je svoju moć odražavanja europske proš-
losti već višestruko potvrdio, a ponovnu je pozornost
privukao upravo u trenutku kad se Hrvatska priključuje
ujedinjenoj Europi.
