When the jewels were found and removed, obviously
under strict supervision, the chest and roll were tran-
sferred to Zadar. Only after several weeks of negotiati-
ons with the Zadar authorities were they transferred to
Venice and temporarily stored in the Zecca (Mint) of
St. Mark. The opening of both packages followed on 23
February 1584 before the notary Pietro Partenio. This
event was attended by representatives of the two gro-
ups of goods owners, Antonio di Giovanni and Carlo
Zanfort. Pearls, diamonds and emeralds, some uncut
and some inserted in pendants and rings were removed
from the small trunk and chest in the roll. Four days la-
ter, their appraisal was complete, and the final amount
of 7,243 ducats surpassed the amount of 3,600 ducats for
which the gems were insured.
The remaining salvaged goods, among them a consi-
derable quantity of fabrics, waited in Zadar until April
for their return to Venice. The condition of the goods
after so many months of lying in warehouses must
have been rather poor. The problem was not in the tax
which had to be paid, but rather in the appraisal of the
extracted goods on which basis their amount could be
calculated. After these events ran their course, the Se-
nate promised the

months later. The shipwreck was forgotten with time,
and with it the hope that the remaining cargo would
ever be salvaged.

Projekt BrodolomkodGnalića –
ogledalorenesansne Europe
Tijekom posljednjih godina oko Gnalića se polako stvara-
lo pozitivno ozračje. Dana 5. srpnja 2011., u organizaciji
Sveučilišta u Zadru, Grada Biograda na Moru, Sveučilišta
Texas A&M i Sveučilišta u Zagrebu (FER), u Biogradu je
održan okrugli stol na temu
Brodolom kod Gnalića; Povi-
jest istraživanja, problematika konzerviranja arheoloških
nalaza, planovi za budućnost i primjena podvodne infor-
macijsko-komunikacijske tehnologije
. U radu okruglog stola
aktivno su sudjelovali pioniri gnalićkih istraživanja Sofija
Petricioli, ZdenkoBrusić i DaliborMartinović, te predstav-
nici mnogih institucija zainteresiranih za sudjelovanje u
projektu istraživanja, zaštite i prezentacije brodoloma. Ve-
